Sunny Sanya!
February 2009

Sanya is the southern most city of China and a famous international tropical seaside resort, located on the southern most point of Hainan Island. Sanya is the second largest city in Hainan Island - with 19 bays and harbours such as Yalong Bay, Dadonghai Bay and Sanya Bay, which is the most well-known.

Anyone who is fond of swimming and water sports will be in paradise in Sanya. It's an excellent place for swimming, sun bathing, scuba diving and water sports. Not only is it far away from the crowded cities of Hainan Island, China, but it experiences warm weather all year round - and is the absolute perfect spot for a getaway filled with pure relaxation.

While Sanya will never run short of a bay to visit, some of the best are The Asian Dragon Bay (Yalong Wan), Dadonghai and Sanya Bay - all quite different in their natural beauty.

Tianya Haijiao (literally 'edge of the sky, rim of the sea'), is 24 kilometres away from the downtown centre, and just as its name implies, it will take you to the end of the earth, surrounded by blue sky, pure clear seawater and three famous huge rocks here that attract tourists - the Chinese characters of Tianya, Haijiao and Nantian Yizhu are engraved on them. Also worth a visit is the Nanshan Temple, located 40 kilomteres west of Sanya City. It is the most famous Buddhist temple in Hainan Province, facing the South Sea and encircled by mountains on both sides - buses will take you there daily via the Jiefang Second Road of Sanya City.

Whilst in Sanya, a must is a visit to Monkey Island. Situated south of Lingshui County, Nanwan Monkey Island is the only island home to 'macaques' - a state protected monkey in China. While there you can travel on the longest transoceanic ropeway in China.

Lastly, leave plenty of time to kick back and relax in your five star resort, Sheraton Sanya Resort for Starwood Privilege members.
